Oral Cancer Screenings

If you’re prone to tooth decay or other oral problems, we recommend receiving an oral cancer screening. During the exam, Dr. Ahmad will examine your mouth for any spots or bumps that may be a sign you’re suffering from oral cancer.

People who smoke, drink heavy amounts of alcohol, or have a history of oral cancer are at the highest risk of developing this condition.

If Dr. Ahmad notices any trouble spots in your mouth or on your lips, he may use additional technology to further examine them. Even if you aren’t at high-risk for oral cancer, we still recommend receiving oral cancer screenings regularly.

Periodontal Treatment: Restore Your Gum

Bacteria can infect not only your teeth but also your gums. Not brushing or flossing properly can cause them to develop gum disease. Periodontitis, also known as gum disease, is caused when your gums develop plaque and become red and inflamed.

Gum disease is easy to treat with nonsurgical treatments. Some periodontitis cases can be treated during your regular dental exam. While he’s cleaning your teeth, Dr. Ahmad will also remove any bacteria on the gums that are creating infection.

If the infection is more severe, he may perform scaling and root planing on your gums. During this deep cleaning treatment, Dr. Ahmad will remove the bacteria from your gums using special tools in a process known as scaling. Next, he’ll smooth your gums out to prevent additional plaque from forming and causing another infection — this step is called planing.

Cavity Treatment and Root Canal Therapy

Even those who brush regularly are at risk of developing cavities. These spots or tiny holes on your teeth are caused by tooth decay and should be treated immediately so they don’t spread to other parts of your teeth. Dr. Ahmad will treat them by removing the plaque and filling them with composite resin.

If these cavities aren’t treated, they’ll become worse and may infect your tooth’s pulp — also known as the roots. Once the entire tooth and it’s roots are infected, Dr. Ahmad will have to perform root canal therapy to save the tooth.

This consists of him removing the infected pulp and replacing it with a dental rubber material. He may also need to cover the tooth with a crown to protect the tooth.
